Welcome to rodfrisco.com!
Hey, folks.
If you’re checking in today, it’s most likely because you saw the video board ad for this site at the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships at the Giant Center.
Good. That means my $400 I gave to the fine folks at PIAA and Market Street Sports Group wasn’t totally wasted.
As you can see, this site is a newborn, all awkward and screaming to be cared for. There’s precious little to see for the moment except that pudgy-wudgy wittle baby, but that will change very soon. The whole idea is to rapidly grow this site into the most comprehensive site on the Internet for PIAA championship sports and news.
So, just what will rodfrisco.com be and why should you come here daily?
Let’s start with the basics. First of all, the site will be totally free: No subscription, no log-in. Pennsylvania high school sports fans love their information. They especially love it when it’s free.
The centerpiece of the site will be a daily blog that will greet you on the home page. The blog will take on many tasks beyond the obvious bloviating that bloggers do.
Sometimes it will be commentary. Often there will be links to the breaking news of the day. Here’s a example of a football coaching change in the WPIAL from the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/10042/1034953-365.stm.
And that’s just the first story I came across before I took one of my daughters to school.
You’ll be able to link to newspapers, other websites and other media directly from my home page, by sport, once the navigation is complete (um, it’s not yet, as you can see).
But that’s not all. Over the ensuing weeks and months, this site will have a comprehensive archive of PIAA championship results and records, all currently in boxes, binders and file folders in my Cumberland County living room. The idea is to make rodfrisco.com the vault for PIAA history … in all sports. And to get the boxes out of the living room.
The core of this site is PIAA championship events and PIAA news. Our goal is simple: Attend, report and comment on all PIAA championship events, using a correspondent where state championships conflict, and provide the state’s high school fans with a one-stop reporting shop.
The idea is to blend daily news and commentary with the PIAA records mentioned above to provide a site that is both informative and entertaining. In addition, you can send questions and comments to me at rod@rodfrisco.com. I’ll do my best to answer them promptly.
In addition, the site will be designed to complement, not compete, with other Pennsylvania scholastic sports-specific sites that have served readers so well over the years like pafootballnews.com, and easternpafootball.com. (A quick tip of the hat to Tom Elling and Rich Vetock at pafootballnews.com and MaxPreps and Dave Mika and his crew at easternpafootball for all of the great work they’ve done over the years. Thanks for blazing the trail, guys!)
So, there’s a lot to come from rodfrisco.com over the next weeks and months. It will take a while to load in all of the information, but it will be worth it.
I thank you for your interest and your patronage. Now, let’s have some fun at the PIAA Team Wrestling Championships.
