Posted the PIAA boys track and field records earlier Wednesday in The Record Book.

Kind of buried that post in another post reminding all about Thursday’s live chat at 1 p.m.

Feel free to check out those records, but make sure you some time. It’s nine separate files, 92 pages in length.

It took me about 8 years to compile the information, working a few days here and a few days there, making trips to different libraries around the state and assaulting their microfilm viewers. And to think it all started because another writer asked me if a team champion’s point total was a record and I had to admit I had no clue.

No one ever likes to admit they have no clue. So it was off to the stacks of the State Library in Harrisburg.

As you’ll see, there are many, many first names missing prior to the 1960s and 1970s. If you can confirm a first name, by all means please write me at In addition, I obviously need relay teams.

Thanks again. Hope you enjoy the records. Hope to have the girls up by the end of next week and follow up with the remaining spring sports.

  1. Mike, that I can’t help you with, at least not directly. I concentrated my research strictly on champions because that’s all I really had time for. I would suggest going to the microfilm of the local library and digging up what the local newspapers had. The other source is high school yearbooks, often available in a school library. The kind of information you want will take some serious digging. Best of luck.
