Playoffs. Thank goodness.
Don’t get me wrong, I love regular-season football, even the bad games. But I really love playoffs.
Well, until it comes to predictions. That famous 79 percent usually takes a beating in the post-season. I swear my Lab pups could do better sometimes.
But these are for amusement, right? Right?
Last week: 104-26 (80.0%)
Season: 843-222 (79.2%)
RODFRISCO.COM TOP TEN
CLASS AAAA
No. 1 La Salle College 38, Roman Catholic 7 (Solid Roman team put up 17 reg-season, not this time)
No. 2 Pittsburgh Central Catholic 24, Gateway 14 (Gateway has buffed up as season has progressed, but PCC still wins)
No. 3 Lansdale North Penn 34, Penn Wood 7 (Yeah, Penn Wood is 9-1, but it takes more than record to knock off NP)
No. 4 Ridley 28, Henderson 7 (Could be a ticklish spot – well, not literally – for unbeaten Green Raiders)
No. 5 Mount Lebanon 20, Woodland Hills 16 (Wouldn’t be surprised if rolling Woody High picks off Lebo, though)
No. 6 North Hills 21, Upper St. Clair 14 (Both teams are grinders; expect a real battle)
No. 7 North Allegheny 34, Bethel Park 7 (BP pulled off first round shocker, but can’t see two in a row)
No. 8 Easton 38, Delaware Valley 6 (DV coming off a terrible loss to Wallenpaupack)
No. 9 Wilson 35, Manheim Twp. 7 (Township put up a big fight in league game, but Wilson dominates Friday)
No. 10 Neshaminy 31, Upper Dublin 6 (UD is a nice team, but won’t keep up with the ‘Skins)
CLASS AAA
No. 1 Allentown Central Catholic 41, Blue Mountain 14 (BM has had a little trouble holding back quality offenses)
No. 2 Archbishop Wood 33, No. 5 Cardinal O’Hara 27 (Simply put, the No. 1 game in the state this weekend)
No. 3 Abington Heights 28, North Pocono 17 (No easy touch for Heights in playoff opener)
No. 4 Montour 40, Indiana 13 (Indiana played two winning teams, lost badly to both)
No. 6 Thomas Jefferson 35, Hopewell 27 (Intriguing. Very intriguing)
No. 7 Grove City, idle (Hey, one I won’t miss!)
No. 8 Bishop McDevitt 42, Kennard-Dale 9 (McDevitt seems to be back into the flow)
No. 9 Greencastle-Antrim 35, Hamburg 14 (G-A’s had an unpleasant playoff history. This makes it feel a little better)
West Scranton 28, No. 10 Dallas 21 (Why do I pick against my own top ten teams? Because I can)
CLASS AA
No. 1 West Catholic 48, Delaware Valley Charter 12 (New No. 1 has no trouble in 12-AA opener)
No. 2 Lancaster Catholic 48, Schuylkill Valley 6 (LC has been tested in recent weeks. Passed ‘em all, but tested just the same)
No. 3 Aliquippa 22, Beaver Area 14 (OT the last time and could end up in extra time again)
No. 4 North Schuylkill 27, Pen Argyl 24 (Maybe the No. 2 game in the state this weekend)
No. 5 South Fayette 28, Freeport 13 (Lions very aware this is where they checked out in ’09)
No. 6 Northern Lehigh 33, Jim Thorpe 19 (Thorpe a nice team, but Bulldogs win these kinds of games)
No. 7 Forest Hills 34, Central Cambria 20 (Rangers rattled last week by AAA tough guy Johnstown, but strike back)
No. 8 Lewisburg 23, Bloomsburg 20 (Terrific way to start the D-4 playoffs)
No. 9 Littlestown 41, Bermudian Springs 19 (Bolts get out to early lead, unlike reg-season win)
No. 10 Danville 43, Wyalusing 14 (Ironmen have been dominant, continue the trend)
CLASS A
No. 1 Clairton 37, Bishop Canevin 6 (Canevin pretty good outfit, but good enough to take out the Bears?)
No. 2 Rochester 36, Beth-Center 12 (Rams keep marching toward showdown with Clairton)
No. 3 Mercyhurst Prep 44, Mercer 15 (Look for Lakers to blast against team that knocked it out of ’09 playoffs)
No. 4 Southern Columbia 52, Canton 6 (Will be quite surprised if Canton gives the Tigers a run)
No. 5 Taylor Riverside 34, Northwest Area 8 (Northwest faced a tough sked this year. It ends pretty tough)
No. 6 Farrell 52, Union City 6 (Farrell seems to be a bit angry lately …)
No. 7 Sharpsville 35, Cambridge Springs 0 (Expect the Blue Devils to be, um, sharp)
No. 8 Bellwood-Antis 15, Bishop McCort 14 (Superior schedule gives McCort a real shot at the presumed uppie)
Monessen 28, No. 9 Springdale 20 (Solid first round playoff wins tilts this game toward the ‘Hounds)
No. 10 Line Mountain 27, Muncy 14 (Muncy pretty good for 6-4 squad, but Eagles get the drop on Muncy at home)

live blogging from CD?
It looked for a while that I would do no live blogging due to family issues (daughters in school play, ex out of town, kids lost their ride, I’m the new taxi). But my darling daughters inform me that they won’t be done at play Friday until 10 p.m. So I’m going to give Warwick-CD a lash hoping that the game end no later than 9:30.
By the way, I cannot live blog per se in playoffs. District 3 charges a broadcast fee and I would be subject to that fee if I went live (appropriately so). What I will do is provide continuous updates (every 30 seconds to a minute); readers can keep tabs by refreshing the page. Not as clean and immediate as the live blog format, but it’s the best I can do in playoffs. It basically follows the NCAA guidelines on live event coverage. It will be the same for any PIAA playoff games including the state championships, unless I secure a sponsor to cover the costs of live blogging all four games.
That’s the way it goes these days.
