Here are the 2011-2012 Pennsylvania Sports Writers’ Class AAA and Class A all-state football teams.

There is one 34-player team per class; no second or third team this year.

Here are the easy-to-read pdf files for each class. The harder-to-read text for lazy folks like me is below.

  1. Two questions Rod.

    1. Why no second and third teams?
    2. And only two Southern Columbia guys? Really? Maybe Roth should have been COY then. I’m not even a Southern fan!

Love your stuff. Keep it up.

    Rick

  2. Rick,

    (1) We’ve found that we were often just plugging holes for second and third teams once the majority of the votes went to top players in many positions. And in some classes, we only received one statewide nominee at certain positions (mostly tight end). So we decided to go with an expanded first team.

    (2) Two words: statewide voting. We had good participation in the voting and a lot of Southern guys got votes, but so did other guys at certain positions. COY vote was very close in A.

  3. How were the allotments for the positions determined. Having 4 RB’s and 5 OL doesn’t seem right. I like the 5 OL, i think the list should have pinpointed 2 RB’s

  4. Techeddy,

Number of slots per position were based on voting. Whichever positions were the strongest got more positions. We decided to maximize our flexibility without being outrageous (for instance, we weren’t going to have 10 linebackers even if they had the 10 highest vote totals. We tried to think a little outside the box this year. Since it’s not traditional, many will pan it. I am prepared.

  5. How close was Wuestner in the AAAA all state bid

  6. I can’t comment specifically on vote totals. He did receive votes, but not enough to make team. Sorry.
