I don’t have PIAA brackets past 1998 … yet. I have some research sessions at the State Library in Harrisburg scheduled in the upcoming weeks, and my priority is basketball. Hopefully, I’ll have brackets, including the ones you’re seeking, by the end of the summer.

According to my records, Leon Chatman (it was spelled that way in my primary source and I found a Leon Chatman who graduated from Clairton in the mid-1960s, but I will happily correct the spelling if it is incorrect) won the PIAA Class A pole vault with a jump of 13-4. However, I searched diligently to find a victory by Ray Arrington in the mile as you suggested, but was unable to confirm that. Again, my archives indicate that Arrington was second in the 1965 A mile to Steve Gentry of State College, whose listed time was 4:12.4.

However, those same records indicate that Ray, who went on to an outstanding career at the University of Wisconsin, did win the 1965 Class A 880 in a time of 1:54.1.
