I think the PIAA is unfair with District 5 the school in District 5 and District 9 should have their own
Regionals in Altoona. District 7 and 10 could have their own Regionals. Could you tell me why this could not be this way.

Rich,

The PIAA requires member schools to submit their enrollment numbers by Oct. 1 of the final year of a two-year cycle, which means those numbers should be in PIAA's hands right now. Of course, there are always stragglers and PIAA usually takes the month of October to track down those schools.

Past practice has been for the PIAA to compile those numbers and provide classification parameters in mid-November or so. Two years ago, they rushed a little bit to get the numbers out, then had to pull them back because of a few errors, which caused a lot of unhappiness.

My guess is PIAA will keep those numbers very close at hand until everything is confirmed and double-checked. So, early December is the likely release time.

What is the time line for the new PIAA classifications. When do the enrollments have to be submitted by the schools to the PIAA,and when will they be published with their classifications?

Dana,

District 3 will have Large School and Small School classifications with the classifications to be determined by the district. I'm sure if the district has settled on the classification formula yet.

My understanding is that there will be no qualifiers this first year, but I could be wrong on that. I believed the district said it will see what kind of interest there is first, then adjust where necessary going forward.

Thanks for writing. And congratulations: You are my first cheerleading commenter.

Where does or will cheerleading fit into the classifications? Does a District 3 Championship mean there will be qualifying competitions? I live in Manheim Township and I also have a child in the Lancaster school system. Where can I keep up to date with the PIAA changes in cheerleading?
