The finals for Friday’s PIAA Softball Championships have been set.

CLASS AAAA
CHAMPIONSHIP
Central Bucks South (21-2) vs. Mount Lebanon (22-3) at Robb Field, Shippensburg University, Friday, June 18, 10 a.m.
Notes: This is the first appearance in a PIAA softball championship game for either school. … Central Bucks South has existed only since 2005, so the Titans at least have a good excuse. … South lost its season opener to Council Rock North, but has won 21 of its last 22. Its only other loss was to Suburban One colleague Hatboro-Horsham, which was beaten in the state semis by Mount Lebanon. Moot now, but if H-H had beaten Lebo, CB South and H-H would have met for a fourth time in the state finals; Mount Lebanon ruined that. … Mount Lebanon won a WPIAL title in 2004, but was rudely thrown out of the tournament by Shaler, the 7-4 team that year. Not that it made Mount Lebanon feel any better, but Shaler did go on to win states that year.

CLASS AAA
CHAMPIONSHIP
Jersey Shore (23-1) vs. Bellefonte (23-3) at Robb Field, Shippensburg University, Friday, June 18, noon
Notes: Jersey Shore is making its first PIAA championship game appearance, Bellefonte its third. … Bellefonte is 0-2 in its previous championship games, losing 4-0 to Kutztown in the 2002 Class AA final and 3-0 to Chambersburg in the 1997. AAA final … Jersey Shore pitcher Brooke Koch has five no-hitters this year … Two of Bellefonte’s three losses this year are to Class AA finalist Philipsburg-Osceola. … Jersey Shore’s only loss was a 4-3 setback to Troy, which won the 4-AA title. … Jersey Shore and Bellefonte are just 40 miles apart.

CLASS AA
CHAMPIONSHIP
Nanticoke (20-1) vs. Philipsburg-Osceola (25-1) at Robb Field, Shippensburg University, Friday, June 18, 2 p.m.

Notes: Both teams have PIAA softball titles. Nanticoke won the 2003 Class AA title, beating Center 4-0. P-O (everyone calls it P-O, trust me) beat Brandywine Heights 11-6 in 2007, the highest-scoring PIAA softball championship game. … Nanticoke’s only loss was a 5-3 setback to Dallas on May 5. P-O’s only loss was a 10-6 decision to neighboring school and softball rival Bald Eagle Area in early April; the Mounties have won 22 straight since that game.

CLASS A
CHAMPIONSHIP
Montgomery (22-1) vs. Chartiers-Houston (21-2) at Robb Field, Shippensburg University, Friday, June 18, 4 p.m.

Notes: Montgomery is making its first PIAA championship game appearance. Not so Chartiers-Houston, which has had the most frustrating championship game history in the state. The Buccaneers are not only 0-5 in previous title-game appearances, they have been shutout in all five of those games. That includes an 11-0 loss to South Williamsport in the 2007 Class A final, the most lopsided Class A championship game in history. … Montgomery lost 8-1 to Warrior Run in its second regular-season game and has won 21 straight … Chartiers-Houston is the only team in the PIAA softball finals that is not a district champion; the Bucs were WPIAL runners-up to Vincentian.

No live coverage today unless I make last-second decision to head down to Ephrata for Lower Dauphin vs. Owen J. Roberts, but that’s 50-50 at best. Kids’ birthday. What can I say?

However, I will be blogging all four PIAA baseball championship games Friday from Altoona’s Blair County Ballpark. Details will be posted in mid-week.

As such, I’m seeking reports from the PIAA softball championship game Friday from Shippensburg University’s Robb Field. Anyone who wants to dip their toe into the famously warm rodfrisco.com pool can do by contacting me at rod@rodfrisco.com.
