I saw this video on Cory Geiger’s blog at www.altoonamirror.com while making my rounds on

Yep, from the ol' hometown. Dig in.

the ‘net and just about damaged my septum because I was laughing so hard. It’s a parody of Katy Perry’s song California Gurls and it is freakin’ funny. Trying to describe it here would be an injustice. It can only be appreciated by watching.

It doesn’t have anything to do with scholastic sports per se, but tell me these guys don’t have our state nailed. And I’m absolutely thrilled that my hometown of Clearfield gets a call for Denny’s Beer Barrel Pub, home of the (former) world record largest hamburger at the 1:40 mark. I’d book these guys for my wedding reception, except that happened two years ago.

We all need a laugh, and the guys from Sloppy Secondz just provided us with some. As Cory noted in his blog, there’s some R-rated language in a few spots in the video. Parents would be advised to screen it first before allowing kids to view it.

But if you’re a lifelong Pennsylvanian like myself, you’ll laugh yourself into the fetal position. Hat-tip to Cory for the video link.

Normally, re-posts are a really cheap way of looking like you’re doing something. But I’m going to re-post this file periodically because, well, I’m kind of proud of it. That, and I think you’ll find it interesting.

When you “retire” and you’re a certified high school sports geek like I am, you think things like: Who has the most all-time state champions in Pennsylvania? (Yep, that’s the kind of stuff that streaks through my mind.)

Worse, I actually took the time to figure it out and compile a database.

I finally got the thing completed and posted it in early July when everyone was at the beach. So, now that football is beginning to take hold and more folks are coming to the site, I’m re-posting it for those who might have missed it while they were tanning and shooing away gulls.

According to my research, North Allegheny has produced more combined state champions – team and individual – than any school in Pennsylvania with 130 PIAA championships. The Tigers have won 87 individual championships and a rather astounding 43 team championships.

That team number is just amazing. Consider that NA, which formed in 1959, has won team championships in 10 different sports: baseball, cross-country, football, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, volleyball and track. The only sports in which NA has not won a team title are basketball, field hockey, golf and lacrosse. Just give them another 50 years and the Tigers will be fine.

The original story, posted on July 10, is here. The 38-page database detailing every state championship won by every school (except for gymnastics) is here.

Find your school and see if you agree with the numbers. That way, you’ll be as big of a geek as I am.

Throughout the recruiting season, Bishop McDevitt senior Jameel Poteat has been constantly rated among the best running back recruits in the country.

This might be; I have not seen all of the running backs in the country.

But one thing I can submit without fear: He’s a better young man than he is a running back. And that ought to tell you something.

Articulate, tough (he runs inside a lot) and skilled, Poteat made the University of Pittsburgh happier today by announcing he would attend the University of Pittsburgh on a football scholarship. We cannot applaud the decision any more strongly than when we heard the news.

He is the second McDevitt senior to announce for a Division I school in less than a month. Quarterback Matt Johnson made the call for Bowling Green just a couple of weeks ago.

Any questions why McDevitt will be the consensus preseason No. 1 Class AAA team in Pennsylvania this year? (Actually, there are some questions, but we’ll save that for later. This is Jameel’s day, and he’s earned it.)

The brief from Andy Shay of The Patriot-News via pennlive.com is here.

This is good news for a fine young man and we wish him well. May blue No. 10 jerseys pop up all over south central Pennsylvania.

P.S. – Would have posted this earlier, but this was Hersheypark Day for the triplets. Nothing personal, Jameel.
